Polish international Dominik Kubera has confirmed he will leave hometown team Leszno following the club’s fourth straight PGE Ekstraliga title triumph.
The 21-year-old moves up into the senior ranks for 2021, but with PGE Ekstraliga clubs required to track one rider under the age of 24 in their top five, Kubera will be one of the sport’s most sought-after signings for next season.
Reports in the Polish media suggest he is on his way to Lublin, while Leszno will be able to select local favourite Bartosz Smektala or World Under-21 champion Jaimon Lidsey as their under-24 star.
Kubera joins Bartosz Zmarzlik and Szymon Wozniak in Poland’s team for the Monster Energy FIM Speedway of Nations Final in Lublin on Friday and Saturday – a weekend which could offer his new potential fans a sneak preview of what they can expect in 2021.
When asked about his future on Canal+ last night, Kubera confirmed he will be leaving the Alfred Smoczyk Stadium.
He said: “Everyone asks about my future. There are many unknowns. Leszno is my home. I grew up here.
“It's time to write a new chapter in my adventure with speedway. I would like to thank all the fans, sponsors and presidents, because I feel at home here. I hope that someday I will come back here a much better rider and achieve the highest goals.
“We'll try something else. Maybe it will work, maybe not. Maybe I'm making the biggest mistake of my life. But this is what my heart tells me to do. You have to try something new.
“Here in Leszno, I leave my whole heart. Next year, my heart will still belong to Unia Leszno, but I will wear slightly different colours.”
