ELITSERIEN | WOFFY INSPIRES INDIANS ROUT

GB star Tai Woffinden warmed up for the Monster Energy FIM Speedway of Nations with 14 points as Indianerna ran riot 57-33 away to Masarna.

Great Britain star Tai Woffinden warmed up for the Monster Energy FIM Speedway of Nations with 14 points as Indianerna ran riot 57-33 away to Masarna on the opening night of the Swedish Elitserien on Tuesday.

The triple world champion dropped just one point from five rides to local hero Antonio Lindback as the Kumla outfit dominated proceedings.

Woffy’s tally is a boost for GB fans as the Lions prepare to face Australia, Denmark, Latvia, USA, France and Finland in Race Off 2 at Manchester’s National Speedway Stadium on Saturday.

Danish racer Kenneth Bjerre bagged 12 for the Indians, with Chris Holder racing to 11 on his club debut.

Lindback led the Masarna response on 12 points with German racer Martin Smolinski adding seven paid nine.

Elsewhere, Piraterna defied a 14-point haul from Smederna star Freddie Lindgren as Danish duo Mikkel Michelsen and Niels-Kristian Iversen led them to a 48-42 win at home to champions Smederna on the club’s Elitserien comeback. Michelsen piled up 12 paid 13, while Iversen added a straight 12.

Polish star Bartosz Zmarzlik zoomed to a 15-point maximum for Vetlanda, but it was not enough to save them from a 50-40 loss in Vastervik.

Swedish league debutant Jack Holder and local hero Peter Ljung topped the Vastervik scoring on 10 paid 12, while World Under-21 champion Bartosz Smektala registered a straight 10. Nicki Pedersen notched eight paid nine.

In the day’s other match, double-figure returns from Max Fricke and Andreas Jonsson couldn’t spare Rospiggarna from a 43-35 loss in a rain-shortened contest away to Lejonen.

Jonsson powered to 11 paid 12, while Fricke bagged 10 paid 12. Robert Lambert added a useful eight paid nine for the visitors.

Former World Under-21 champion Maksym Drabik led the victorious Lions’ scoring on eight paid nine, while Timo Lahti scored seven paid eight.
