MONSTER ENERGY FIM SPEEDWAY OF NATIONS OPENS IN LANDSHUT

German track Landshut to host Monster Energy FIM Speedway of Nations Race Off 1 on May 4.

07 / 01 / 2019, 12:00

World Championship racing returns to German track Landshut for the first time in 22 years as the venue hosts Race Off 1 of the 2019 Monster Energy FIM Speedway of Nations on Saturday, May 4.

Hosts Germany will take on six of the world’s top teams at the OneSolar-Arena Landshut-Ellermühle, all bidding for just three places in the Monster Energy SON Finals.

The news completes this year’s Monster Energy SON calendar, with Race Off 2 heading to Manchester’s National Speedway Stadium on May 11 and the Finals being held at Russian race track Togliatti on July 20 and 21.

Interest in speedway is growing by the year in Germany, so it’s a pleasure to bring the opening round of the Monster Energy SON to Landshut.

The top two sides in both Race Offs 1 and 2 qualify automatically for the Finals with the next three sides competing in two knock-out heats to decide the last qualifier. Defending champions Russia are seeded directly into the Finals as host nation.

It’s the first time since the 1997 German FIM Speedway Grand Prix that Landshut has hosted a full World Championship event.

But last year saw the venue successfully stage the GP Challenge – the final qualifying round for SGP 2019 – and Landshut has regularly hosted top-line speedway action in recent years.

BSI Speedway managing director Torben Olsen is delighted to be bringing World Championship speedway back to Bavaria.

He said: “Interest in speedway is growing by the year in Germany, so it’s a pleasure to bring the opening round of the Monster Energy SON to Landshut.

“The German team made it through to last season’s Finals in Wroclaw and I’m sure they will have plenty of support as they bid to race their way to Togliatti.

“We look forward to staging our first event of 2019 in Landshut and I look forward to a great night of racing on a fantastic race track.”

ACL Vice-President Gerald Simbeck said: "Being the host for Monster Energy FIM Speedway of Nations Race Off 1 is the next step for the club and a big challenge.

“We are happy that such a big event is going to take place in our OneSolar-Arena. Our staff and the whole club are already looking forward to this race and look forward to seeing many spectators there.”

Ticket details for the Landshut event and the full line ups for Race Off 1 and 2 will be confirmed in due course.
